Homepage setting keeps changing to: mk:@MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/start.html

Hello there everyone

I believe I've got something in my system that keeps changing my homepage to: mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/start.htm

It's ratter anoying. The day that I realized this happening a few other things also happened

1. My Notpad in the startup menu was "gone". I mean the icon still there, but when I click on it it's not starting Notpad, it seems to be running some sort of thing but nothing came up on screen. I then went into the property of that shortcut, and found that the .exe file for this Notpad icon has be changed to C:\WINDOWS\system32\actmovie.ex

I did find the notpad.exe it was in c:\windows . I am wondering is this the defualt location for it? Wasn't it supposed to be in c:\windows\system32 folder? I noticed the calculator was located in the system32 folder

2. I play some shockwave games from Gameblast. All the downloaded games worked fine before, but now some of them will not start. It gives me an error saying that some other programe is running when I have not other programes running

I did email Shockwave and Gameblast about this, but they say the error message does not come from their programes

I have a feeling that all these are some how related. I couldn't put my fingers on what it is. Antivirus scan turns up nothing. If anyone can offer some help that would be great. Otherwise I'll resort to reformat and reload my system. Thank

Hi Margret,

Hello there everyone,

I believe I've got something in my system that keeps changing my homepage to: mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/start.html

[...]
More info about parasites:
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow
the prompts.

You can also download Hijack This from here:

http://www.mjc1.com/files/merijn/hijackthis.exe

Go here:
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces so experts tell you what is good and what is malware

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of
BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It
is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you
the ability to disable them.

Hope this helps.
