Highlight shade text on screen without it printing on paper

I am trying to shade a few portions in a letter that will be accessed by
users at a later time. The shading will be done to words that need to be
changed from time to time and the letter will then be printed. The shading
however should not appear on the actual printout. It is merely for
identification purposes on the screen.

Having a real hard time doing this without using forms.

You can use the highlighter. If you clear the check box for "Highlight" on
the View tab of Tools | Options, the highlight will not be displayed and
will not print.

Much easier, though, would be to create the letter as a template with
MacroButton NoMacro fields. These fields are overwritten when you type in
them, but field shading isn't printed in any case. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/UsingMacroButton.htm.
