I have windows xp sp2. I am having problems with javascripts on websites.
I have removed MS Java VM from my computer and installed the most recent 5.0
sp1 of the Sun Java runtime. I have IE selected in the Java console to
allow the applet in IE 6.0 and in IE I have the Sun Java enabled and in the
security for internet I have enable Javascript radiobutton selected.

If I go to java.com and select the verify installation, I get a red x where
the coffee cup shouls be. I would not post this on this newsgroup except
this only is effecting IE, Mozilla and Firefox are working corretly.

I did not get any installation errors when installing Sun Java runtime.

Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

I am starting to think this is not a Java issue and is instead some other
issue- when I verify java installation the coffee cup flashes on the screen
and then goes to the red x.

I initially uninstalled the Java VM and installed the updated Java runtime
to try and resolve a different issue - When accessing a particular website
with IE 6.0 from my office the javascript buttons do not work correctly (I
have to click refresh then click the buttons - each time on every page.)
This same thing occurs on every win xp ie 6 installation on our network as
well as laptops from our network connecting outside of our firewall. I keep
thinking that this is a group policy setting or some setting on IE that is
causing this behavior, but can not seem to locate any likely settings.
Note: Netscape, Mozilla, and Firefox do not have these issues - Java verify
works correctly on the java.org site and the website that initiated this
whole issue also works correctly with these browsers within our network.

Java is not JavaScript. Which do you have trouble with?

I believe it is javascript I am having trouble with but what I am trying to
determine is the extent of the issue. I can run the sun java console, I can
run Java applications, but I am having trouble browsing websites that
require a Java runtime. And like I said one indication of the problem is
that when I go to the www.java.com and click the verify installation I get a
flash of the indicator coffee cup and then a red x in a box, which according
to the web page means that the runtime is either not installed correctly or
not working in my browser.
