Help Please : Microsoft AntiSpyware is running VERY slow on boot

M

Medbourn

Is it me or is Microsoft AntiSpyware very slow on bootup?
Anyway to speed it up? Its taking a LONG time before I
can even start using desktop, if I do use it before
Microsoft AntiSpyware is loaded it sometimes locks me up
or doubles the time to process it. (I usually wait until
its up and running before I use any programs)

Thanks

Yes - Amen to that. I installed then immediately
uninstalled the software today for just that reason. Also
seemed to be gobbling up virtual memory. It didn't catch
anything that Norton wasn't catching - so why bother?

This isn't the experience of the vast majority of users--but as you can see
you aren't alone.

It may be worth your while trying a second install to see if it is
different.

I'd recommend using MSCONFIG to disable all third party services on your
machine--this won't keep it from functioning well enough to do the install.

Unplug from the Internet, restart, and install Microsoft Antispyware. Test
whether it works reasonably well--in fact, perhaps do a full scan--but be
careful about cleaning--read the Release Notes in the readme carefully
first.

If you feel it is working well, run MSCONFIG and reinstate all the third
party services, and restart normally. Plug the Internet back in.

See whether that does the job. If it does not, if I were you, I'd uninstall
the beta and wait for a further build--perhaps for beta2.

Let us know how it goes.
