Help and support center is dead

Johnny Lurker

My system is running Windows xp Home Edition sp2. I cannot access Help &
Support Center link from the startup menu. Same thing for Microsoft System
information: an hourglass cursor is displayed for a couple of seconds and
that's it. I have tried a lot of solution:

I have tried to reinstall Help and support center...

nothing!

I think the problem is related to RPC. Have You a solution?

Thank You

No, your solutions don' t work. If my computer starts in safe mode Help &
Support Center and Microsoft System Information load regularly. It' s very
strange. Probably something blocks the application loading. I will have to
use msconfig and to try different selective boots in order to find trace of
the problem. The event viewer does not record anything anomalous. Anyway,
thank You very much.
If You have other ideas let me know them.
ciao

Have you scanned with the latest updates for viruses and spyware with
whatever software you have for this?

See if this opens Help and Support...
Paste this into the Start | Run box and click OK...

%windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\helpctr.exe

See if double clicking helpctr.exe opens Help and Support.

Paste this into the Start | Run box and click OK...

%windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries

Then double click helpctr.exe

Does this open System Information?
Paste this into the Start | Run box and click OK...

Avg free Edition is scanning my computer in this moment. Then I will launch
PestPatrol...

Nothing to do. Only an hourglass cursor for a couple of seconds, no message
boxes. Anyway, I have uncovered that the problem affects another software:
Softimage. Other softwares work fine, my computer is fast as usual.

Johnny,

AVG Free Edition
Program version: 7.0.344
Virus base: 267.11.9/116
Release date: 09/30/2005 2:30:00 PM

If the problem affects other software, then virus or malware may be part of
the problem.
