Have to press log off twice to actually log off

Hi there, I am running a suite of around 30 machines that were all imaged off
the same image so they are all identical. They are all running Windows XP Pro
SP2 with all the latest patches and updates applied to them. They are all
added to a Server 2003 SP1 AD Domain.

The problem I am having is when anyone goes to log off the workstation they
have to press log off twice, pressing log off once does nothing at all, the
same goes for restart or shut down, once you do it the 2nd time the
workstation actaully does what it is supposed to have done the first time.

The workstations are all running 2gb ram and 3ghz intel dual core processors
and have only been installed a week so it is not system lag or anything like
that. Once you log off etc the second time it instantly does what its
supposed to, so its just very annoying more than anything. Anyone any ideas? .

Response made by Cstorms in November:

This sounds like some service or hidden app thats not closing
properly.
I am not sure exactly how to track it down but I have had this happen
with a machine having the same issue with some generic sound mixer
application. I would say try and track down the program that is
hanging
on you.

Thanks for that Robert, I disabled all the services using msconfig and it
didnt make any diff so I re enabled them and disabled all the startup
programs in the startup section and it fixed the prob, after enabling them
one by one I found out it was CLIStart.exe causing the problem, the ati
control center, since I dont need this as I can access everything through
display properties I shall be removing its entry from registry next time
everyone logs in using the login script.)
Many Thanks
