Have lost all icons and start bar

Please help!

My dad has booted up his pc this morning and all he can
see is his background picture. There are no icons and no
start bar so he cannot do anything. When you
alt/cntl/del there is nothing running under tasks. Can
anyone help please (we are not techie's so please use
laymans language!)

hi,

I blieve this is a fresh installation of xp, try to right
click on your desktop screen and on the properties look
for appearance and check box my pc, networks, and the rest
of the box's shown..this should do it for u
