hangup during xp installation

During installation of xp upgrade from 98, install hangs
at finanlizing installation - updating program and system
settings. Attempted to restart and setup began again and
hung at same location. Need advice on what to do from
here.

Is the CD okay?
Go for a clean installation.

If the CD is fine, then installation problems usually come from bad RAM
and/or a failing hard drive.
