HAL.DLL HELP

hello, my laptop running xp pro, tells me that i must
reinstall hal.dll it is lost or corrupt. i dont have a
system disk for pro.(i bought it used) my desktop is
running the home version. will i be ok using the home
version disk to repair the pro installation on the laptop?
any help is appreciated.

P.S. You cannot use a XP Home CD to repair XP Pro.

It's highly likely that you'll have to go out and purchase
a "full version" of Windows XP Pro and perform a
"repair install". Your current XP Pro license is invalid anyhow
since you did not receive the Windows XP Pro installation CD when
you bought your used computer.
