Green hue on screen

My mother is running Windows XP and all her screen has suddenly assumed a
green hue. This apparently happened once before and later resolved itself
spontaneously. We have tried adjusting the screen colours and contrast and
have adjusted display and colour settings in the control panel. None of this
has resolved the problem. Is this likely to be a hardware problem eg in the
graphics card?

Two possibilities come to mind.

1) Monitor needs replaced (try a different monitor to confirm)
2) Bad cable connection - such as a loose video cable on your video card.
Try wiggling the plug. at the back of the computer, or at the back of the
monitor if it isn't permanently attached.

If still no joy, then I would not rule out a bad video card - but this seems
less likely than the first two.

One other scenario is the video card has loosened in the slot. If it's not a
loose cable I would try to reseat the video card.

Thank you both for your hepful suggestions. I have solved the problem for now
by pushing the cable in more firmly. I assume the cable is faulty as you
suggested. Many thanks
