Green flashing spots/dots around edges of avi video playback

I had green flashing dots around edges of video that would sometimes
appear for a few seconds before disappearing again every so often
during playback of avi's. I thought it was my processor overheating
or something crazy but I installed the latest k-lite codec pack and the
latest drivers for my Radeon 9800 and it seems to have stopped them.

Thought I'd post this in case it helps anyone else.

Bugger, the damn green dots came back after 2 days!!! I'm running
powerstrip, perhaps I'll disable that next time they appear... and try
running Windows Media Player rather than BSPlayer.
