Good book for scanning?

S

Scott

Howdy all,

I've been wondering if there is a book or other resource that would cover
the basics of scanning. For example, I scan a neg at full res on a Minolta
DS III and the picture is not clear at all. Massive pixelization, like when
you look at a low size jpg. Is this grain? I'm looking for something that
will address the common mistakes the newbie scanner makes and identify what
is seen in a high res scan, and how it compares with the lower resolutions.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

In addition to (but not in place of) the references given, if you want to
buy a book buy "Scanning the ProfessionalWay" by Sybil Ihrig and Emil Ihrig,
published by Osborne.

BEST BOOK FOR SCANNING and how to get to brilliant images?

Currently the best book for scanning is the "SilverFast Official Guide
Book" from Dr. Taz Tally from SYBEX. the book is available on AMAZON
and many other sources!

http://www.silverfast.com/show/sf-official-guide/en.html

It introduces into all fundamentals of scanning and all basic and also
advanced tools!

Funny, since you've explained just a few days ago that all one might
ever want to know, except how to get the promised full color-corrected
48 bit scans from a Nikon LS-30, is explained in those wonderful little
Quicktime movies supplied with Silverfast. ;-)

SNIP commercial plug.

Although I welcome the exchange of OT insights and solutions for user issues
from all sources and backgrounds, be it commercial or not, I do not
appreciate a commercial plug without making it obvious that the sender has a
commercial interest in providing the 'information'.

It might have been a bit more in line with Netiquette if your sig would show
that you work for Lasersoft (producer of Silverfast), but as is it qualifies
as violating Netiquette. That's a bad business practice. This all assumes of
course that you are whom you claim to be in your Email address and header
trace.

Complying with Netiquette by writing about a good book about scanning?

Dear Bart,

My email clearly identifies myself as beloging to the product
SilverFast, that I am talking about and despite that I am even using
my real name and are not hiding behind a fake name.

I am helpful with supplying information to lots of users looking for
such information, in this case about a very good and helpful book
about scanning, understanding the imaging process, colour mangement
and how to get to brilliant scans.

Maybe you are not aware, that we are the only company supplying
upgrades for over 300 scanners to users for their scanners, where
their scanner manufacturers do not supply any upgrades anymore!

Please note: the correct name of the developer of SilverFast is
LaserSoft Imaging:

More info on the company can be found here: http://www.silverfast.com

By the way, the SilverFast Official Guide Book from SYBEX was not
written by us, it was written by Dr. Taz Tally and SYBEX, who make
money with the book.

yours sincerely

Bla, bla, bla...

More shameless plugs from the man who's sh...ing his pants about the
success of the competition.

Has he already called you, Bart? Or is he just sending more of his long
whining emails? ;-)
