We recently transferred the files and configuration from one computer
into a newer computer. Almost everything on the new computer is
working correctly, including the software, dial-up connections, and
the stored passwords that were on the old system. However the new
computer cannot access the local area network, and gets a 'Unable to
browse network'. This is confusing as the network settings were
transfered from the old computer, nothing should have changed.
I did check the XP hardware wizard, there aren't any problems with the
network adapter, and some data was sent and received. I've checked
the physical connections, which are solid. I've logged the user out
manually and reentered the password (yes, we have the correct one),
with no result. I've disabled the XP firewall, and lowered the
security options and still the computer couldn't see the network.
I'd like to know what I can do to resolve this problem. Is there some
software that I can use to help diagnose the solution to it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
