I 've got a access databse that sits up in a network drive that is used by
various differnt people during ht day. It was written on Access 2000.
Recently some of the systems accessing the database are now running Access
2003. The first person with Access 2003 has no prblems opening the database
by a shortcut or just double clicking the database. However once a 2003 user
has it opened no other Access 2003 users can use the shortcut or double
click it to open it up. They have to open access first and then do a ,File
,Open to get intot he database. If they try the shortcut or double click the
database they get an error "Microsfot Access can't find the database <<file
name and path>>.

This does not affect any of the Access 2000 users. I'm at a loss.

If several people are using your database, then it should be split into a
front-end and a back-end. Once it is split, everyone uses their own
front-end which is on their computer. Take your last good backup of the
database, and make a copy of it to split. Then give everyone their own
front-end.

Is this a new thing in Access 2003? I have quite a few databases that have
been built over the years that are used by multiple people. If this is a new
thing with Access 2003 then I will just stop pushing it out and stay on 2000.

What I don't understand is why all the access 2000 users have no problems,
or why I can open the database in 2003 by using the File , Open method but
not with a shortcut.
