Get external data, link tables ODBC stopped working

When you select ODBC Databases() nothing happens, just dissapears.

I installed Norton 2006 recently but don't know if that mattered as it's
been a month since I have attached a new SQL database table to my access
database.

After you have ODBC Databases() selected from the Access link window, "Select
Data Source" window will appear and Link window will disappear. If the
Select Data Source window does not come up, it is likely that you don't have
the ODBC driver installed.

To check, go to Control Panel. Then click on Administrative Tools. You
should see an icon "Data Sources (ODBC)". If not, ask your IT dept to
install it for you.

I hope that helps.

It worked fine before and just stopped working, the odbc selection is still
there, it's just when you click on it nothing happens, if I use Access or
Excel or any other source they all work, it's just the pop up with the ODBC
selection no longer appears, it makes no sense.
I have been in software for over 20 years Access, ASP, SQL etc so this is
not some configuration problem, either a MS update or Norton or something
broke it.

(P.S. I already removed Access and re-installed from scratch, of course it
still remembers everything and did not require a re-boot so that tells me an
Access uninstall does not do much of anything)

Other people have reported the same problem with Norton 2006: the source of
the problems seems to be the "Symantec Norton Antivirus 2006 Office Plugin"
but as I don't have Norton 06, I cannot tell you more about this.

THANKS! a million, that solved it, I can't believe Norton doesn't tell you
it's blocking it with a check box or something.
I am trying to figure out how to rate a posting, not very intuitive here.

Hi Steve, I have the same problem, but I have disabled some Norton 2006
features and nothing happens, ODBC functionality is halted.

Could you tell exactly what did you do with Norton to disable that
"security" feature?

Thanks
