Windows Vista Genuine or Not?

Friend has had his Vista laptop repaired & now when it boots it says it is not a Genuine Copy?
Is this a case of my friends putting in the key code if they can find it?
If they cant as it's an old laptop what do they do?
Fresh install of Vista/XP/Win7 by buying a copy?

If you believe the OS is genuine and you have the genuine product key, pick up the dog and bone and give M$ a call. They will run their genuine activation software to determine if it's genuine or not.

I had issues with mine after 3months. My wndows 7 was telling me it aint genuine. Had to contact them. They said Serial Key was legit and guided me through I manual authentication

Before you go to M$, you might try installing CCleaner (it's free).

Clean out the unneeded files and the Registry.
Then reboot and try to activate the OS again.
If that doesn't work, you can always call M$.
