Fujitsu fi-4120C WIA problem

Alright, so here's the situation. I have a Fujitsi fi-4120C and if I
install the driver and run their ScandAll program, I am able to scan
just fine. No problems. However, if I install the same driver and run a
program to access the scanner using WIA, it all seems to work just fine
until I click on the scan button, at which point it tells me there was
an error and that perhaps the scanner is busy. The scanner is in fact
not busy and no other programs are trying to use it. Then, if I go into
ScandAll and try to scan, I get that very same error. I have tried this
on several computers, always with the same results. Any ideas?

What do you mean "install the same driver and run a program"?
ScandAll 21 is the TWAIN driver.
A TWAIN driver will show in any Photo editor with a TWAIN interface.

The specs say, TWAIN driver included (Win 98/2000/NT/Me/XP)
until I click on the scan button, at which point it tells me there was
an error and that perhaps the scanner is busy. The scanner is in fact
not busy and no other programs are trying to use it. Then, if I go into

Details about the fi-4120C scanner.
http://www.archiveindex.com/duplex/fi-4120C.html

This information says that the interface is TWAIN, not WIA.
If you have a WIA driver, Windows XP screwed you.

You are using the USB connection, aren't you.

You must have plugged in the scanner before installing the packaged
software.

If you do not have a TWAIN capable Photo Editor, Download, and install the
free Irfanview. Get the Plug-ins also, they are necessary.
http://www.irfanview.com

File>select Source, then File>Acquire.

If you need the TWAIN driver go here.
Download for Fujitsu scanners.

I would read the Install Guide.

CSM1,

Sorry, I should have been more descriptive about what I actually did.
Also, on Fujitsu's website
(http://www.fel.fujitsu.com/home/faqs.asp?L=en&CID=9&xid=308) it says:
"The 9.11.xx and later drivers contain both STI and WIA drivers for
lower end scanners (fi-4120C/fi-4220C/fi-4530C/fi-5750C)"

Ok, here we go. I have computer A and computer B. On A, I plug in the
scanner and install the latest driver from Fujitsu. Then I open up
ScandAll to access the scanner using a TWAIN interface. It works just
fine. If I then try to access the scanner using the WIA automation
interface, it says there are no WIA scanners installed. So, on computer
B, I plug in the scanner and install the latest driver from Fujitsu.
Then instead of using ScandAll, I go right to using the WIA automation
interface and bingo, it finds the scanner and identifies it as having a
WIA driver. Now when I use either WIAAI or ScandAll to try and acquire
an image, it comes up with an error during the scan.

Hmm, so maybe the problem is really with the WIA driver Fujitsu
provided? In all honesty I am still somewhat new to the whole scanner
driver stuff, maybe there's something I'm not quite understanding?
Thanks for the reply.

The problem is you plugged in the scanner *before* installing the
manufacturers software.

In Windows XP, ALWAYS install the software before connecting any device.
XP installed its own built in WIA, which is crap. XP never gave you a change
to install the correct software.

Disconnect the scanner, Remove all of the software and start over. Reboot
computer after removing the bad software.

Now Download and install the software, Link below. Reboot.
Then plug in the scanner.

If you have a choice, Use the TWAIN driver, WIA is limited in the functions
you can do with the scanner.

http://www.fcpa.fujitsu.com/support/scanners/drivers_downloads.html
Has STI-TWAIN Software Drivers and ASPI-TWAIN Software Drivers for The
fi-4120C scanner. The ASPI-TWAIN is for the SCSI connection. Use the USB.
Scroll down to see all of them.

READ THE GUIDE for STI-TWAIN Software Drivers
TWAIN Install Guide Version 9.17
(1.54 MB)
http://www.fcpa.fujitsu.com/download/download/scanners/drvguide.pdf

Pay attention to 3. Installation. It is on Page 6 of the above PDF.

follow the old saying:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
use TWAIN on both and uninstall WIA
