FrontPage 2000 - Can't "find" files to open

L

Larry Bevil

I have an IBM laptop running Windows 2000 Pro. I am
planning to "manage" a website from my laptop for a while.
I found that when I try to open an html page that is on my
hard drive, FrontPage says it cannot find the file. It is
on my hard drive. Any idea's?

Thanks.

Try using File Menu | Open Web.

1. Find the file in Windows Explorer.
2. Double-click it.
3. If this starts Internet Explorer, click IE's Edit With
Microsoft FrontPage button.

Thanks. I tried that. Got a message: Cannot open file
"service.lck" for writing. I have no idea what that is.

Okay, when I double-clicked the file in Explorer, it
brought up FrontPage with the message: Cannot open file
"service.lck" for writing.

Thanks.

How did you get the web on to this machine?

If you do so via CD, then all of the files are marked read-only, you will
need to use Windows Explorer to select all files and folders in the web and
the click properties to remove the read-only attributes.

Initially, I copied the files from a CDRom to my laptop. I
tried earlier today to ftp updated files from the website,
but it would not overwrite the files. I checked and found
that the files were read-only. So, I went in and unchecked
the read-only attribute from all the files in my directory
on the C:\drive. I then went back and ftp'd all the files
down from the website to make sure I had the latest
versions on my hard drive. After doing that, I tried to
access one of the htm pages that I most frequently update
and got that message about the service.lck file.

Thanks. Larry

Find and delete the service.lck file

The correct way to transfer a web is to Publish it from your host to the laptop
