FREEZES @ Logo Screen

I have an HP Pavilion 310n that can't get past the HP
logo screen when it's turned on. If I hold down (Esc) as
soon as I turn it on it WILL go to the black screen with
white lettering that describes (in part) the system,
including the description of the CPU and how much RAM is
installed. On the bottom of that same screen it says
Press F1 to enter Setup< F1 as well as F11 works to
change those words to Entering SETUP...... but after
that, NOTHING happens. Stays there and doesn't change at
all.

HP sent me a recovery disk but the pc doesn't look at the
cd-rom or the floppy drive at all, just goes straight to
the logo screen and freezes. The CD-ROM light blinks each
time I turn the system on, but that's it. I've
disconnected the HD just to see if it would do anything
different when I turn it on, but nothing different there
either. I've tried hitting every key on the keyboard at
different times after I turn it on but nothing different
ever happens.
Is there any advice anyone could give me to get this
system up and going again. I would definitely appreciate
it. THANX N ADVANCE. The Rookie/Wayne B.

Hi...I decided to come over here and look at your post...
if you cannot even get into setup...it sure looks like a hardware problem.
I think I'd remove all boards from the machine (except video of course)
and see if you can get anywhere.
If that does not work...about all that's left would be to try different RAM
and/or video board.

Hey Philo, just in case you missed my response to you in
2000, your suggestion WORKED. The evaluation copy OS is
up and running again so now I can install the regular
version of Win2k. I decided to try the same thing with
this one running XP, AND IT WORKED AGAIN! Booted up with
no problem at all. I definitely ApPreCiatE your
response, I would have been stuck probably forever
without it. Have a great newyear and take care. Wayne B.

Yes, I saw your reply...glad you got it going.
That bios reset jumper can be a real life saver...I bet a lot of boards get
thrown
out that are still perfectly good...
