Freeware disk repair utility

If someone in this ng would direct me to a freeware disk repair utility I
would be most grateful. The utility I want would repair a hard drive that
won't fdisk because "checking disk integrity" won't move. TIA for help. JG

I should have said that I want to format the drive in FAT 32, not NTFS. JG

Maybe a work-around?

FDISK /ACTOK - Makes FDISK not check the disk integrity allowing the drives to
be created faster.
