Has anyone tried this free general ledger and cashbook program from

I installed it the other day to check it out. When I was unable to
modify or create accounts I uninstalled it again. Perhaps I didn't
exercise enough patience or common sense, but it's VERY basic
and user unfriendly with no or little scope to customise for your
own accounting needs.

You seem to have missed the fact that you can modify and create accounts and
cashbooks to your heart's content and set up multiple companies if
necessary. You just go to the Maintain menu and select Accounts, Companies
or Cashbooks.

The instructions to get started using the program are here
www.responsive.co.nz/quickstart.html

I have been using it for the past 12 months to track all my personal and
business finances and reconcile my bank statements and it hasn't missed a
beat. I have found it to be very flexible and easy to use and I like the
fact that it is not overblown with features I don't need like some other
accounting systems I have used.

Mmmm. Like I said; perhaps I didn't exercise enough patience or
common sense. Whilst I certainly understand why you would want
the help file/function to be online, it was certainly a contirbuting factor
to my misconception that it was uncustomisable and to the "user
unfriendly" attribute which I so freely used.

Time to give it another try.....in a whole new ball park.
