Forms Upload Form doesn't work

Alex

I am having a bad time trying to get the Upload Form working. I have
followed the rather basic instructions available in FP Help but it doesn't
work. According to FP2003, it is REAL simple. (not!)

Is there any place where I can get detailed info on how to do this. My web
server says they are set up handle it.

When I try to upload a file from my web page, I first get a request for a
UID and PWD...sometimes three or four time and then eventually a "page not
Found error message. Of course nothing does upload.

Have you contacted your host to see if you can use this specific component of the FP extensions?
Also your site must be hosted on a Windows IIS web server.

Maybe I didn't explain clearly. We have created an UPLOAD FORM on a web page
so that clients can upload files to us. (We have no problem uploading the
SITE) The web host is a Unix server and has enabled Front Page extensions. I
understand that it has to be a Windows server.

What's wrong with this picture? I have been trying to get my Upload Form to
work. My server says everything is OK on their end. FP Extensions are in
place etc. BELOW are the instructions from Microsoft. On Items #3 and
4...there is a problem. The selections "Allow scripts or programs to be run"
AND "Allow anonymous upload to this directory" does not exist. There is no
such choice or selection available.
Can anyone explain?

a..
1.. Set the properties of the folder where uploaded files are stored.
2.. How?
1.. If the Folder List is hidden, on the View menu, click Folder List.
2.. In the Folder List, right-click the folder, and then click Properties.
3.. Clear the Allow scripts or programs to be run check box.
4.. Select theAllow anonymous upload to this directory checkbox.
5.. To overwrite existing files, select the Allow uploaded files to
overwrite existing file names checkbox.
6.. Click OK.

Has your host/remote server set it up on their end? Just having extensions
installed doesn't mean the host has enabled and configured it on their end.
They must do so.

You must open your site on the live/remote server in FP to set that, and if it is grayed out, then
your web host does not allow or has not configured your account to allow you to use the upload
component. Also the upload component only works on a Windows IIS web server with the FP2002
extensions.

Did you read the KB article and set up your form and upload folder per the instructions?

Boy am I getting conflicting info. I am beginning to think that my server
tech support people don't know what's going on. They say it WILL work and
that I just have it configured wrong on my end. So...I am in the middle
again.

I was wrong about the Microsoft instruction "Allow scripts or programs to be
run" AND "Allow anonymous upload to this directory". I was looking at the
upload page properties instead of the FOLDER properties. In the Folder
Properties, they are grayed out. So this means that my server has to be
running a Windows server (they are runningUNIX)?????? In other words,
proving an Upload function for clients is out of the question?

I get such sparse help from them and each time I get an e-mail from them,
it's different response.

Yes, it must be on a windows IIS server.

If you are hosted on Unix/Linux you can not use the FP Upload component.

If you are hosted on Windows IIS, the host can configure the extensions to not let you use this
component.

A web host has control over many FP features.

So far..I have received plenty of information about what I CAN'T do. (thats
easy the way out)

I received the following e-mail from my server (I don't know why they didn't
tell me this days ago)
-------
"Ok, So that feature shouldn't work with Unix Based system ... Please try to
contact to a web programmer to make a script with php to upload the files
into your account."
-------
I am still left with lots of negative resposne but no possible suggested
solutions.

You have to search for a PHP Upload script that you can work with, and get support for
implementation.

In your IE address bar type:

? PHP Upload Script

Or

Visit one or more PHP support forums on the internet.
