fonts in windows folder couldnt be found in word

I am using PageMaker for some publications, and I was advised to use TrueType
fonts for the documents. Therefore, I couldnt modifiy a font (eg. bold or
italize them). I found the font--Garamond Bold, for demonstrating
purposes--in my windows folder, but it is missing from the drop down font
list in MS Words. There are only 3 or 4 other Garamond type fonts available.
I was wondering can anyone teach me how to make those fonts exist in windows
folder be available in MS Words?
p/s: Printer is set to the one capable of print those fonts.

Hi Jackson,

Word (and most Windows programs that use fonts) shows only the family name
in the font dropdown. If you select some text and click the Bold button, or
apply a style that includes bold formatting, one of two things will happen:
- If the family's files in the Fonts folder includes a Bold variant, Word
will use it.
- If there is no separate Bold file, Word will use the 'regular' font
outline but thicken all the strokes of each letter.

Italic is treated the same way: Word uses the separate Italic file if it's
there, or it slants the strokes if there is no separate file.

In either case, there's no way to force the dropdown to show the variants.
