Given the history, the problem sounds more in the motherboard/BIOS area than
in the operating system.

If you are trying to install ME (not XP), then I assume that the hard drive
is formatted as FAT32. If it happen to be formatted as NTFS, from a
previous XP installation, then you must first remove all partitions, then
create only FAT32 partitions. FDISK can do this.

Meanwhile, assuming FAT32, try booting from a simple DOS floppy disk. If
you need one, get one from www.bootdisk.com. Be sure to get one with
generic CDROM support. If the PC can not even get into DOS, then the
problem(s) are definitely at a lower level. If DOS works, then ME should
load as a clean install.

Hint: as with most installation, remove/unplug all peripheral hardware,
including USB hubs, except for the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. After a
successful installation of the operating system, add hardware one device at
a time, loading drivers as recommended by the peripheral device
manufacturer.

Good luck.

Hmm. You updated the BIOS (not OS related, so off topic).

Then you tried to install WinME and it failed (not XP related, so
again off topic).

So, pray tell, why are you here in an XP hardware group complaining
about a BIOS problem, that has nothing to do with XP and it's hardware
dealings, complaining about problems loading an Older, non XP OS?
