And an update for those at least some of those same security issues for the
1.5x series.

Thanks, Randy. April 24 is not that far away--'guess it's time to push
people to make the change...

Sure is, that's why I post these updates, in the case of Firefox there is
usually good reason to go right ahead and upgrade, right over top.

Thanks. I don't track Firefox very closely, and had thought that the 2.x
version was in some way not ready for prime time yet.
Regardless, looks like I should get folks to switch.

Your welcome, Bill.

It is ready for prime-time, I post and read these things on Steve Gibson's
news server and only use Firefox as a back-up Browser which is handy
to have.

At least one addendum of note... Java 6 is unsupported in the 2.0.0.2
version and was removed by the update...

Good thing to note. I have Java 6 on a smattering of machines. I haven't
tracked carefully which I've put it on and which not--I haven't been
systematic.

Not true. Java 6 *does* work with FF 2.0.0.2. Your statement gives the
impression the two are incompatible.

I quote from an exchange on the mozilla.support.firefox NG (search for
topic 'Java 6 and FF 2.0.0.2'), a place where such statements are
examined with more care.

"When you install JRE 6 it adds an extension to Firefox that adds a menu
item to the Tools menu to open the Java Console. There is an error in
the set-up file for the extension that only lists it as compatible with
Firefox 2 and not Firefox 2.0.0.* - This causes the extension to be
disabled when you upgrade Firefox, but JRE 6 will still work normally.
The only difference is that you will no longer have a menu item that
opens the Java Console (most people will never need this). "

Ah--thanks--that's clearer, and makes good sense--and none of my users will
ever have had a use for that button--even the one who does web development
eschews Java.
