Filled contacts, but empty Address Book in Outlook 2007

After days of trying to fix the same (I think) problem, I stumbled on a fix:

Click on the address book icon.

The first line in the box shows two choices: Search 'Name only' or 'More columns".

Make sure the 'Name only' button is selected.

Mine was on the 'More columns' selection. I don't know how it got there, but as soon as I selected 'Name only', the box was populated.

Hope this works for you!

wow thanks, had no clue it was so simple, what a waste of time!

Same here... searched all over/tried several attacks, and then read your post about "name only"... it worked... thanks

I am running Outlook 2007/Vista. After having transferred from Outlook2003/xp
the address book seems to be empty.
If I look in “Contacts” all the entries are there. If I key anything in the
To field Outlook comes up with correct suggestions. If I Click the To button
the list is empty and the Address Book dropdown is empty.
In Folder List -> Contacts -> Outlook Address Book “Show this folder as an
email Address Book” is grayed out and not selected.

In Account Settings -> Address Books I have an Outlook Address Book (Type
MAPI)

Your contacts can be lost due to any reason. Software windows address book repair outlook express is tried and true.

It always helps me to solve like issues, apply it http://www.addressbook.repairtoolboxx.com

My problem was that the drop down list in the To field was not showing all the addresses in the address book. In the address book "Name only" was already selected. Thanx to your mail I got the idea that switching to "More colums" and than back to "Name only" might fix the problem and it did. Thx!

Thanks for posting Janet. It worked for me, too. Who would have guessed that "more columns" actually shows less (nothing).

What do you do if even this does not work???
