File sharing, mac client sees share on win2k prof

I got a report from client that they used to be able to
see and access share on win2k professional from macintosh
(OS v 9) via appletalk protocol.

Then I found the 262282 article (knowledge base), and it
claims:

You cannot use the AppleTalk protocol in Windows 2000
Professional to share folders or printers for Macintosh
clients. This feature is available with Services for
Macintosh in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server or Microsoft
Windows 2000 Server.

Question: Which one is correct?

You can add AppleTalk protocol to W2K Pro, but not run Services for
Macintosh on it.
This is a purely commercial limitation (thanks M$).
You can add third party Macintosh files server on W2K Pro like:
MacServerIP
http://www.cyansoftware.com/MacServerIP.htm
ExtremeZIP
http://www.grouplogic.com/products/extreme/overview.cfm
Probably your client is using MacServerIP or ExtremeZ-IP

Not sure some 3rd party Macintosh clients would allow this. Windows 2000
Professional does not include Services for Macintosh but it did include the
Appletalk protocol. So no file shares without a 3rd party product on the
Classic Mac OS machines.
