File and printer sharing plus...

I have a desk top (Windows XP Home, P4 1.5GHz, 100GB) and
a laptop (Windows 2000 Pro, P3 700 MHz, 20GB) that I want
to connect to enable me to share files,
printer/copier/scanner, fax machine, High speed internet
(cable modem), CD-RW drive (internal - desktop), a 60GB
external harddrive and so on. What is the best way
to ,accomplish this? Is a router the way to go here? I
don't need to be able to access computers over the
internet, just at my home office. Any and all suggestions
will be considered.

thanks

Charles

Definitely you'll want to get a DSL/Cable modem firewall router. Less that
$100 from linksys, d-link, netgear and others you can search for.
