Fed up: Sapphire Radeon 9600xt 128mb replacement?

Hi guys,
I just installed a new 9600xt as part of a new build:

Abit IS7
P4 2.6c (OC'd to 3.2)
1gb OCZ 3200 memory (2 sticks of 512)
Raptor 74gb HD

The first game I installed, Call of Duty, has given me nothing but
problems. Generally, it's the same freeze-up/crash/reboot as other
9600xt owners have complained about. I've rolled back the drivers,
dropped down to 4x AGP...everything others have suggested, but nothing
works.

I thien installed America's Army and had the same sort of errors.

I'm fed up. Brand new system. Brand new card. Relatively new games.
There shouldn't be these kinds of problems.

I payed about $168 on NewEgg for my card last week, so I'm thinking
I'll RMA it. My question: Should I abandon ATI altogether?? If so,
which Nvidia card might be most parallel to the 9600xt?

Thanks,
CS

What driver did you have before you rolled back? Since it's a new build can
I assume the 9600 has been in since you first installed the OS?

Did you remember to install the latest BIOS for your board as well as the latest AGP/chipset
drivers for your board before you installed DX9 and the Catalyst drivers? Has the computer
been thoroughly burned in, tested for stability, and have the voltages been logged during this
process to ensure that the PSU is adequate for the job?

There is also a patch from Activision for CoD, as well as the fact that some games prefer
specific card driver releases.

I was crashing with the latest drivers till I switched to the Omega's and
disabled VPU recover...COD runs rock solid..no glitches..no crashes so
perhaps you should look in your system first to see what the issue might be.

I started with the Catalyst 4.1, then went down to 3.9, 3.7, 3.1, then
the latest Omega drivers (based on the 4.1). Omega lets me geta little
further into the game, but still bombs out.

No good! Any ideas, short of moving to Nvidia?!

Well I asked because I know recent versions (until 3.9??) had major problems
with CoD. For me, the game crashed right away into the VPU recover.

IF you have tried everything and still have problems, by all means return it
and get another card. Follow the advice of the other 9600 owners in this
thread and hopefully something will work before it gets to that. I have
owned and loved many nVidia and ATI cards but I wouldn't trade in my 9800
for anything.... was a bit of a headache to get it running 100%, but with
advice from people here and other forums I was able to get past my hurdles.
Good luck.
