fax service will not setup

Hi,

I cannot install the fax client program into this client. The join computer
wizard first reported that the fax install failed upon initial setup. It
will not recognize the fxsapi.dll files not matter where I point the install
to. I am logged in with full admin rights and have ran out of options.
Here's what I've attempted to do below.

I copied the entire fax directory to the local drive and loged on with
domain admin rights and still cannot succesfully setup the fax client.

I then tryed going to the control panel>Add Remove Programs>Add Remove
Windows Components, and checked the Fax Service and clicked next.

A dialog box immediately comes up saying the following : The file
'fxaspi.dll' on Windows XP professional service Pack 2 CD is needed. Type
the path where the file is located and then click OK:

Tried loading a XP Service Pack 2 CD and pointed it to the I386 directory
with this error message coming up : "Setup cannot copy the file fxsapi.dll.
Ensure that the location specified below is correct or change it and insert
"Windows XP Professional services Pack 2 CD" in the drive you specify.

I tried running a sfc /scannow and it say it cannot locate the DLL folder. I
copied the I386 to the drive root and pointed it there and still no luck. I
appreiciate any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Hey!

I had the same problem on my installation.

I found that the PC already had a copy of the local fax program installed.
I went to add/remove programs and I deleted the old fax installation. Then
I tried to reinstall from the server. It asked me for the same file...

Then I searched my local drive for the file fxsapi.dll. I found a copy in
the Service Pack II directory, and I pointed install to look in that
directory. Everytime it asked for a file I told it to look in that
directory. I finally got it to work.

Then I tried to do that on another PC, and it did NOT work. So instead,
made sure the local fax program was installed. (That way all the files I
need are already installed.) Then I added a network printer, and chose the
shared fax printer on the server. I finally got that one to work too.

It all seems to have something to do with the local fax program already
being installed.

I hope that helps.

Dale
