//FAST Hardlock Error

I am running WinXP on an IBM T40 laptop. The op/sys is as
received when I purchased the laptop from IBM on/about
15Aug'03. I have not applied any updates or patches. I
am encountering a "//FAST Hardlock Error" error any time I
try to load software from a CD. I believe that the system
is looking for hlvdd.dll and can not find it (that file
appears to be where is should be) or, perhaps, the file is
in some way not what was expected. This problem did not
occur when I loaded software over the approx 2 months
after receiving the system.

Fast Hardlock is a security dongle system for some expensive hardware.
A dongle is a security device that attaches to a serial, parallel, or
USB port that has encrypted security codes for authorizing a user to run
software. I believe the hardlock system can also be used to lock users
out of their ability to install software on secured computers.

Is the error only showing when you try to install from any CD disc and\or CD
drive or does it show up when you try to install any softwhere from any CD
from any CD drive. Have you tried copying the software to the hard drive and
installing from there. What makes you believe the system is looking for
hlvdd.dll? Have you tried registering the dll with Windows. I can't remember
the specific command line but it would be something like this. Click the run
menu from the start menu. In the run box type "regsvr32 x:\path to dll\path
to dll\hlvdd.dll", without the quotes and where "path to dll" is the folders
in the chain pointing to the file. If you are not sure where hlvdd.dll
resides just search for it.on your computer.

I just did a quick web search for the dll as it is not on my computer and it
seems like it might be associated with dongle type technology. This is a
piece of hardware which goes with a piece of software and allows the
software to only be run on one computer. Have you installed a piece of
software recently?
