failure to print

Hi,

recently my printer gives problems; it fails to finalize prints.
Windows event viewer returns the following message (example document):

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Print
Event Category: None
Event ID: 6161
Date: 2-11-2008
Time: 21:52:55
User: MASTER\René
Computer: MASTER
Description:
The document K8041 aansluitschema.pdf owned by René failed to print on
printer HP DeskJet 880C. Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in
bytes: 10747904. Number of bytes printed: 8760400. Total number of pages in
the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 1. Client machine: \\MASTER. Win32
error code returned by the print processor: 0 (0x0).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Does anyone have a suggestion for any troubleshooting or a solution.
Is it possible a hardware problem?
The printer in question is an (oldfashioned) HP 880C; should I replace it?
Please advice.

There's a bunch of stuff that will result in this error. Stop and start the
Print Spooler service. print the pdf again.

If restarting the spooler does not resolve the issue, there are more areas
to look.

Alan,

thanks for your answer!
Indeed stopping and restarting the spooler process resolves the printing
problems.
The only thing I noticed was that I lost the icon in the tray.
But, what is the cause of this bug?
How can I prevent the routine of stopping/starting the spooler everytime
this bug occurs?
Please advice.

Alan,

draw my conclusion too early.
Your solution only worked temporarily; the next time I printed another
document the problem started al over again.
Another observation is that in the printer status screen in the column size
it very often lists only part of the total size (eg 175 kb / 320 kb).
Does that indicate memory problems (of the printer?).

Are you still getting the same event? Try changing the print processor to
winprint (Advanced tab of printer properties). Note the one configured by
the driver if you need to change this back.

Alan,

indeed, I am still getting the same event.
The print processor is already set to Winprint.
Any other suggestions?

LS,

issue may be closed: bought a new printer (with a new problem: refer to my
post about USB disconnects).
Thanks for the suggestions given.
