failue to connect to web server

R

Ruth

Here's the thing, I use two banks online, I have always
been able to access both from the computer via satellite.
Couple weeks ago, I can not access one bank, get the
message: "Failure to connect to web server"

I have to go down stairs to my other computer, that is on
a dial up and I have no problem, it connects immediately.

I have checked everything I know to check, anyone have any
suggestions?

Hi Ruth,

Locate the HOSTS file under C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc and open it in
notepad, remove any lines that reference the bank site by name or IP. Close
saving changes and try again.

Also check

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
"DataBasePath" = %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc

If it is something other than as above, you have the Qhosts bug.

Thanks Kent, added to to my repository of things to remember.

Apparently some variations of Qhosts replace the hosts file and some add
entries to the default hosts file location. Or so I've read in these
groups.
