My Win2k sp4 clients are unable to get their profiles from the Win2k Advance Server DC with SP4 (uptodate with all patches). Note line ** (from userenv.log, posted below), can you explain me why this is happening. DNS server is fine, I can ping using its FQDN, also have tested using nslookup. Entries for DC in the DNS is also fine

According to MS's Q257580, This behavior can occur if the server that hosts
the roaming profile is not available or cannot be reached by the workstation

You test1 user does not have a roaming profile specified in his properties
so he is loading the default profile.

This GetUserGuid will fail in an NT4 environment because it didn't have
that. It can also fail in a Windows 2000 environment if you upgraded your
domain and on the upgraded domain controllers put in place the NT4Emulator
registry value.

Domain

Also, since this is an AD domain, do you have DNS pointed correctly by the
clients? With AD it never hurts to double/triple check DNS.
