Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x80080005

Hi there

The source is MsiInstaller
Event ID: 1015
SP4 installed
Cannot install McAffee
Installer starts "Preparing to Install", waits unusually
long, and then comes up with:
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This
can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if
the Windows Installer is not installed properly"

Not in safe mode.
All Installer files have same date-stamps as on another
Win2K PC. That PC has no problem!
Searched KB with text of error, tried a few fixes, but to
no avail.
Tried re-installing Installer 2.0 but it won't let me.
Cannot uninstall and re-install Installer either.
Cannot uninstall SP4 and SP3.

Could it be the "MSI" chipset's Live Updater? I have
uninstalled it, but no change. Using 845GGLM chipset. MS-
6714.

Any other ideas how to get out of this mess?

Please help

Thanks

Kelly :)

"MSI" in that error message stands for "Microsoft Installer" aka "Windows
Installer", not for the main board of chip set manufactured by a company
named "MSI".

Hello,

I tried following your steps (and quite a few other steps out there). The error I keep getting when trying to start the MSI service itself is

A system error has occurred.

System error 1067 has occurred.

The process terminated unexpectedly.

RE-Register the MSI Installer

I followed the instructions for unregistering and reregistering the MSIEXEC as per your link to MS KB and this resolved my issue. Installation failed from local or from Window Update site until I input the following commands:

I used Start Run, CMD because I wanted to see it run...

Method 1: Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer

loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation');1.Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs.2.Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs, or you may briefly see an hourglass. After you run this command, the operation is complete.3.Try your Windows Installer-based application again.

TY for your help.
