There is an anouncment over at FaD ...

http://www.find-a-drug.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5649&highlight=

... they are closing on the 16th December. :(

The Find-a-Drug project has now processed more queries than the original 250 we envisaged. We have also targetted most of the recognised protein targets for the major project areas. Where we have been able to obtain experimental data to confirm biological activity, the predictions have exceeded our expectations.

Our experience suggests that it will be difficult to find collaborators who will be interested in the results of targetting proteins whose biological function is unknown or of little therapeutic interest.

We have concluded that there are insufficient worthwhile protein queries to continue the project into 2006 and have decided to close the project on 16 December 2005.

We will continue to make some new queries available over the coming weeks but will not accept results after the close of the project.

We are obviously very grateful for the contributions of members and will continue to work with our collaborators.

This is a bit of a shock, and I dont know what to say.

Maybe there is a reason [blessing in disguise] on their part! As at my end everything is A>OK :thumb: it is they who have a problem, maybe its because Mucks is now on the forum ROTFL! As he takes no prisoners-and rightly so.:thumb:

Never the less I am disappointed:( as we are doing so well and would have been up with the best of them.

Morning Chaps & Chapesses,

That's a bity of a blow, and we were so close to getting that illusive TOP 100 position:thumb:

Only one thing for it - more processesors! Anyone got an old ZX81 lying around? Well get it fired up:D

I agree with ItsMe, there may be a positive outcome and that's why things are drawing to a close, but what are we all gonna do with these super-crunchers which everyone has assembled. Any other worthwhile projects out there on the horizon?

I, for one, would be happy to carry on crunching for a valid reason, what about you guys?

Only one that may be worth carrying on with, to my mind, is Folding at Home.

UD are corrupt and, in my opinion, SETI makes no sense at all.

I don't know of any others.

Can someone enlighten me at to what "Folding At Home" actually is?

It sounds more like a global Origami lesson:D

Cheers Vanilla

Looks authentic to me, and a cause which appears to be close to the work we were all doing with FAD.

And more importantly, it looks like we can run it on a team basis so it spreads the PCR name even wider. Who fancies setting up the necessary bits and pieces? Diaries noted for the 17th December!

I'll have a closer look at Folding@Home ... :thumb:

... but we are all in agreement to carry on with FaD until the plug is pulled ... you never know, we may get a reprieve and may get to do more work.

It is a few weeks away yet ... keep on crunching. :D
