External Hard Drive Won't Open!!!! HELP!!!!

Hi,

I have a Maxtor 3000le External Hard Drive that doesn't want to open when you plug it in via USB 2.0. What happened was that I went to move all my music files over to another computer. When I selected all the files and "Cut" and pasted it to my computer, I realized that the hidden files (i.e. desktop.ini) wasn't hidden and had been removed from the external hard drive. Now I can't get the hard drive to open, even though the drive shows up in My Computer.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Format it?


Start/Settings/Control panel/Administrative tools/Compuer managment/Disk Management

Choose the drive and format from there.

Becareful, make sure you choose correct drive

If I format it, then I'll lose the info. and I'm trying to recover it and repair the external hdd at the same time.

It's possible that its gone bad (can't remember the official word) You can take it to a professional if you really need the information on it.

No I remember, its corrupted
