Explorer hogging resources

N

Neil

Hi All,

Just lately, I have noticed that with task manager running I have 100 % CPU
utilised when there is apparently no real number crunching going on.
Looking at the processes list I see that explorer.exe runs at 85 - 95 % CPU
with between 50 and 70 Mb Mem Usage.

Is it possible for another (dodgy) application to masquerade as
'explorer.exe' ?

If not, how can I best identify what is causing this ??

Thanks,

Neil

There's a lot of 3rd party software that hooks explorer - the most likely
explanation. If you can't correlate the change in CPU use with any software
you intentionally installed, maybe a virus/spyware scan would turn up useful
info.
