Excel Send xlsb workbook problem

Hi all,

if I send an xlsb workbook ( Binary ) by using the Send To function the
resulting attached workbook seems to be converted to Compatibilty mode ( xls
), BUT the extension of the attached workbook remains as xlsb, resulting in
the fact that people can't open it directly. Is this a bug?

No problem here

If you want you can send me the workbook private and I test it tomorrow for you

Hi Ron,

thanks for the offer, but it's not a problem with this workbook, it's a
problem with any xlsb for all Excel 2007 installations at this firm. If it's
working OK for you then it must be a problem with the settings here somehow.

It seems unlikely that SendTo converts file formats so I think Ron wanted to
see such a 'converted' file. I would to. Maybe it is corrupted as Excel
2007 is fully able to read xls files. No harm in sending an example is
there? It can even be an empty workbook as long at it exhibits the problem.

Hi Jim,

I know that it seems unlikely that SendTo converts the file format, but that
is what happens. It is not corrupted in any way, it is simply an xls file
with a xlsb extension. No harm in sending an example ... once I get any
company specific information cleared out ... will do in the next couple of
hours.

Thanks, Glenn.

More info ... the workbook is in Share mode. As I was clearing sensitive data
out I converted the workbook into Exclusive mode, and tried sending again,
and NO conversion occurred. So, it occurs for an XLSB file in Share mode.
Will send the files when they are clean.

Hi all

Workaround

After a lot of testing I found out that changing the default Save format
in Excel 2007 from xlsm to xlsx avoid this problem.
Most people will never see this problem because the default is xlsx if you not change.

You can change it here
Office button>Excel options...Save
