Excel-Microsoft Visual Basic File Not Found

D

Donna McMahan

When opening Excel (2002), I receive an error. The top of
the box says Microsoft Visual Basic. The error message
within the box says File Not Found but does not give a
file name.

I am not sure which file is missing because the error does
not list a file name.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the start menu and in Run, enter

Excel.exe /s

and click OK. If excel starts without the problem (this is safe mode) then:

Look in the xlstart directory and see if you have files there - files there
will be loaded when excel is started.

c:\documents and settings\userid\application data\microsoft\excel\xlstart

is the type of place to look.

There could be other xlstart folders as well.

Also, look in tools=>Addin and uncheck any addins (you can add them back
later)

Once cleaned out, see if excel starts OK. If so, you can start adding things
back and starting excel until you get the problem - then it should be the
last file added back.

THANK YOU!

I have been living with this error every time Excel opens for many months now. I must have been searching with the wrong key words to find the resolution because I could not find an answer. Thank you! your answer was simple and worked great! I even added some excel files I use all the time to the xlstart folder.
