I have Office XP Professional 2002 and have saved two
Word files and one Excel file normally - no password, no
read-only, and no encryption. The files were saved to the
hard-drive, not a floppy. Now, when trying to open these
files, I receive this message:

Excel cannot access "filename.xls". The document may be
read-only or encrypted.

I've checked everything I can within the program and
haven't been able to find out why this is happening. The
myriad other documents created with the same program open
just fine. Can anyone help explain this? Thank in advance.

I have the same problem, I have created a excell 2000 document and save it to a ISB den drive and the local hard drive and when I try to open ever one of them I am getting the error message ' Cannot access readonly document <<filename>>'

but the rest of my documents are fine, and any new ones I have create sines then are fine
