EWF - STOP 0x0000007B (Solution for VIA SATA but no EWF)

Martin Berard

Hi,

I finally find a way to get my Target (Jetway J7F2 working using the VIA
Storage driver and resolving my issue with the 0x0000007B. Remove all
storage (VIA BUS Master (The one that came with XPe from Microsoft)
components and include only the driver for the PATA Via Bus Master IDE
Controller - 0571. It will install the SATA (Via Serial ATA
Controller -3149) automatically since it uses the same videX32.sys and
xfilt.sys.

I'm still dual booting and would like to protect my second partition (where
my testing target is) using EWF, I made all the steps from the Using Compact
Flash (CF) with the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) (MSDN Technical Article) and
as soon as I had the UpperFilters Ewf the system won't reboot giving me,
again the 0x000007B. I have the Volsnap entry, when I click the registry I
received an error about an empty string. Should I use only a scace (0x32)
to separate the two items?

I read a second article Configuring EWF Ram Reg Mode (msdn XPe Development)
And find out that an extra key as been added to enable EWF,
"VolumeID"={1EA414D1-6760-4625-8CBE-4F9F85A48E15} Should I put it? REG_SZ?

Thank you

Martin

Hi Martin. If you haven't already, please try the new XPe Feature Pack 2007
Community Tech Preview, which was just released two days ago. This includes
direct support for EWF RAM (Reg) mode, so that it is no longer necessary to
follow a bunch of manual steps to get that working. This may help your
situation.

Please see the Embedded Blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/embedded for
information on how to join the beta program and download the CTP. Thanks.
