Event ID: 5719 Netlogon Error - Another case

D

Dion Pauls

Hi all!

I Like the previous poster have an issue with only 1 PC
(in this case a notebook) on the domain getting the
following Event ID errors 5719, 5789 & 5788 as listed
below.

The NB is on a SBS 2000 Domain, it had previously been OK
(On the domain for over a year), however the event log
shows that these errors have been occuring for a while.
It seems to have come to the fore when the users cached
profile went belly up (i.e. tony.bak).

I have tried this NB on my SBS 2000 domain server at home
and have the same error messages.

No other PC on either domain has this issue.

Also, the user has full network access to files
(including directories with limited access), Exchange
server and internet. However, the shared modem has
stopped working and I believe that this is linked to the
user's issues.

The first instances of the Event ID errors only show
Event ID: 5719 by itself, the other two errors are from
the last few days.

HELP......Thanks in advance

Cheers,

Dion Pauls

SYMPTOMS
When the Netlogon service starts or the service is under load, the
following event may be logged to the Event Log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NETLOGON
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5719
Date: 9/28/2001
Time: 4:12:55 PM
User: N/A
Computer: Server
Description:
No Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller is available for domain
<domain name>. The following error occurred:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon
request.
Data:
0000: c000005e

CAUSE
One possible cause of this error is that you have run out of buffer space
in the NetBT datagram buffer.
RESOLUTION
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using
Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, increase the MaxDgramBuffering value from 128 KB
to 256 KB:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters

On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following information:
Value Name: MaxDgramBuffering
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0x40000

Quit Registry Editor.
Restart the Netlogon service (you may have to restart the computer).
NOTE: If you are using Regedit instead of Regedt32 to modify the registry,
either
right-click Parameters, click New, and then click REG_DWORD -or-

click New on the Edit menu, and then click REG_DWORD
and then add the new registry key information.
MORE INFORMATION
MaxDgramBuffering Details
Key: NetBT\Parameters
Value Type: REG_DWORD - Count of bytes
Valid Range: 0 - 0xFFFFFFFF
Default: 0x20000 (128 KB)
Description: This parameter specifies the maximum amount of memory that
NetBT will dynamically allocate for all outstanding datagram send commands.
After this limit is reached, further send commands will fail due to
insufficient resources.

View products that this article applies to.
This article was previously published under Q257734
SYMPTOMS
You may receive the following Event ID messages in the system event log on
a Microsoft Windows 2000-based member server or workstation:
Event ID 5788:

Source Netlogon:
Error Message: Attempt to update Host Service Principal Names (SPNs) of the

name. The following error occurred: Error message.

Note The Error message placeholder may display the several different error
messages. This article discusses both the following error messages:

Access is denied.
-and-

The system cannot find the file specified.
CAUSE
You may receive the "Access is Denied" error message if the computer
account does not have the required permissions to complete a task.

You may receive the "The System Cannot Find the File Specified" error
message if the computer account does not have permission to read the object
for its computer account.

You may receive error messages 5789 and 5788 if the DNS suffix for the
computer does not match the domain name. This is referred to as a
disjointed name space.
RESOLUTION
The events that are described in the "Symptoms" section of this article
have many causes and associated resolutions. To determine which resolution
to use, verify which error message appears after the text "the following
error occurred" text in both Event ID 5788 and Event ID 5789.
Error Message: Access Is Denied
To resolve this issue, verify the permissions in the "Access the computer
from the network" user right for the Default Domain Controllers Group
Policy Object in the Domain Controllers organizational unit. To do so,
follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then
click Active Directory Users and Computers.
Expand your domain.
Right-click the Domain Controllers organizational unit, and then click

Under Default Domain Controllers Policy, expand Computer Configuration,
expand Windows Settings, expand Security Settings, expand Local Policies,
and then clickUser Rights Assignment.
In the right pane, double-click Access this computer from network to view a
full list of members.
Repeat steps 4 through 6 for all the following group policies that apply to
domain controllers.
Computer Configuration
Windows Settings
Security Settings
Local Policies
User Rights Assignment
Error Message: The System Cannot Find the File Specified
To resolve this issue, verify the permissions on your computer account. To
do so, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory
Users and Computers.
On the View menu, click Advanced Features.
In Active Directory, expand your domain, expand Computers, right-click your
computer, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab.
Click to select the Allow check box for each of the following permissions:
Create All Child Objects
Delete All Child Objects
Validated Write to DNS Hostname
Validated Write to Service Principal Name
Read Personal Information
Write Personal Information
Event IDs 5789 and 5788
To resolve this issue, verify that the suffix does not match the domain
name, and then change the suffix so that it does match. To do so, follow
these steps:
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the Network Identification tab, click Properties, and then click
More.

The DNS suffix is listed in the Primary DNS suffix for this computer dialog
box.
Confirm that this matches your domain name, or edit it to match your domain
name. If the disjointed name space is intended, see the "References"
section of this article.
