error when running adprep /domainprep

When running adprep /domainprep on my test server, I get
the flollowing error
-----
Adprep was unable to complete because the call back
function (null) failed.

[Status/Consequence]
Error message: Windows cannot enumerate the folders in the
local sysvol directory
<d:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol\darksilk.com.au\Policies\*>.
Upgrade of Domain Group Policy Objects failed. (The device
is not ready. )

This error is encountered while trying to Prep teh AD on a
Win2K server ready for a win2003 upgrade
