Error when loading windows on new computer setup

I recently built a computer with brand new equipment.
Asus motherboard, Maxtor HD, Artec CD, 96 Pro vid card,
etc. When I put in the Windows XP Pro CD, it goes through
and says its setting up all the files, and before it gets
to the part about the partitions, it gives me a blue
error screen that says

STOP: 0x000007B (0xf894d640, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000x2)

Any ideas? Someone please help. Thanks.

Does it say anyting else?

Such an error is usually hardware related. Have you checked for BIOS
updates, is your board using an Intel Prescott chipset, have you tried
swapping the video card with something more conventional and possibly more
easily recognized, is there anything else externally connected to the system
besides the keyboard and the mouse? If no, are the keyboard and mose fairly
generic or do they usually require special software and drivers?

Take a look at this article from the XP Resource Kit for information and the
fix for this problem.

Stop 0x0000007B or INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE:

Now I am getting a 0x000007E stop error and I don't see
that error listed on the troubleshooting page with all
the other errors? I have an asus board, how can I update
the Bios without an operating system or even being able
to get on the computer itself? Dont think it is the vid
card, my friend has the same board with a 98 Pro, and his
works fine. There is nothing else externally connected,
except keyboard and mouse. Both are designed for XP.

Is there anything else in that error message besides the error code?

BIOS updates generally are not done from the operating system. The
motherboard vendor or whoever is providing the update usually provides a
utility which you use to create a boot floppy that contains the update, you
boot with it, run their update utility and follow whatever other
instructions they offer.

Sometimes this issue is a case of mismatched memory or sometimes a bad
memory stick can cause it. XP is very particular about memory. If you
pulled this memory from another system, while it may have worked fine on
that system, XP may nonetheless be having problems with it. I'm not saying
this is the issue, I'm only saying it's another possibility.

Can't say about the board and your friend's system and the only way to truly
rule it out is by swapping it with a card that might be more easily
recognized by XP. If the board has its own onboard graphics (Unless that is
what this refers to) you might try removing this card, enabling the onboard
graphics temporarily to see if you can then get XP installed. If yes, you
can then try reinstalling the other card after setup.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, please take this to the
windowsxp.hardware newsgroup.
