Error message on completeing update

OK I broke down and bought Vista Business to test here at home.
Spent about an hour removing programs that I don't use that often,
taking some backups and defragging. All set to go. I put the DVD in
the drive and run setup. Decided to try an upgrade just for SAG's.
Everything seemed to be rolling along until I got to the very last
step, completing the upgrade. It ran until it got to 49% then sat there
for about 30 minutes. A dialog box with the title bar of
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library pops up. the error message read

Program c:\Windows\system32\oobe\setup.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an
unusual way.

Please contact applications support team for more information.

Even though I had disabled my spyware and antivirus programs I
thought OK maybe I should have uninstalled them. So I uninstalled both
and tried again. Same result.

I will say that Vista did restore my old operating system without a
problem but I restored my image anyway. Just in case.

Any ideas on this one? I haven't tried a clean install yet. I was hoping
to avoid that.

Forgot to mention I ran the upgrade adviser before I started and I also
ran the one at the start of the install. Both said I had a program
PowerDVD that may have minor compatibility issues but there was nothing
that would stop me from upgrading.

I am having the same problem, I've tried most the thing you did.
Did you have an answer to this problem you would like to share?

Thanks

I had the same problem. Let me know if you come to any resolution. Also,
Vista Managed to restore my XP OS fine, but I wonder if there are any VISTA
"junk" files left behind from the attempted install that will cause problems
in the future? It seems to be working just fine int he meantime.

Same problem here with a Dell XPS400 box. I've noticed some sporadic
mentions of this problem and everyone seems to have done a clean install to
get around. Dell was no help in trying to troubleshoot and I can't contact
Microsoft without opening a paid incident. Anyone gitten around this in the
upgrade? I really don't want to wipe my box.
