Error message about installing microsoft 2000

Ter

When I get ready to send an e-mail and hit "to" I receive
a dialogue box that prompts me to install microsoft 2000
SR1. Then a box comes up and says that I need a cd for
this and SR-2. Then an error message 1706 comes up. I
click the 4 boxes that come up to cancel and then proceed
to send my e-mail. My e-mails are fine. It is just that
this is very annoying and something is obviously wrong. I
have installed the two CDs. My internet service provider
says that it is a problem with micorsoft.

It seems you omitted a few important things in your post:

- What EMail program do you use? Outlook? Outlook Express?
Which version?

- You write ". . . prompts me to install microsoft 2000 SR1".
Microsoft SR1 what? Microsoft Office SR1?

If it's MS Office you're talking about then I recommend that
you repost in an MS office newsgroup. This newsgroup deals
with Windows 2000 issues.

Yeah he\she does mention Microsoft Office 2000. This 1706 Error is quite common. The thing to do is install MDAC 2.7 latest Service Pack (NOT 2.8) and reinstall the SPs it is asking for if in fact they were installed at one time. And make sure Nothing in the Additional Components for installing Office is set to Run from the Network. Of course all with the Office 2000 CD1 in the drive.
