Error Code 0x80004005 error

Hello,

When booting XP Professional I got the above error code. At the MS Help and
support center I followed the method 2 instructions to correct the problem
but without success. The error code still occurred when I booted XP.

I am unwilling to to do an XP upgrade until I exhausted all other possible
workarounds to this problem. So my question is are there any other actions
that can be taken to correct the problem and successfully boot XP.

Thanks

Is this the article with the method 2 you followed?

If so and that didn't work, I would suggest doing the repair install. Make
sure you have a full and complete backup of important data before doing the
repair install. That should preserve data and programs, but sometimes
things can go wrong. You will need to revisit Windows Update to install the
updates.

Hello Rock - yes the method 2 I cited is the one in the link you referenced.
Thanks for your suggestion; that is what I surmised I might wind up by
doing. I am going to hold off just a bit longer doing the reinstall in case
someone else has an idea that might work.
