I am still hampered by the error 80244019. I have not been able to download updates for over a month. I have read all the relevant recommendations, including doing a malwarebyte and hitchhike cleaning and have tried all these several times, all to no avail.
Not only can I not download the latest updates, but it would appear that any link I click on that attempts to download directly from Windows-Vista udates, appears as a broken link. I have checked with my service provider and the DSN number they give appears to be consistent with the one I am using at present, rather than the bogus 825 variation. If someone could walk me through how to unravel this problem, I would be exceedin grateful.
A virus appears on theWin32 file as I boot up, C: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32\gaopdxmqxxjvh.dll which I relegate each time to a safe box, but my virus checker does not seem capable of cleaning the offending .dll.

err, welcome

This error number for Windows Update means that you are infected with some sort of
malware. Read and implement the following

Suggest you scan the system for the presence of Vundo. If the Windows
Malicious Software Tool is not installed nor scanned the system recently,
then suggest you first utilize it and see if it detects and removes Vundo.

Tools that can fix the problem would be:
-SUPERAntiSpyware (SAS)
-Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM)
-Windows Live OneCare (WLOC)
-Windows Malicious Software Tool (WMRT)
-WindowsDefender (WD)
-=-

A very good antimalware app is SUPERAntiSpyware.
There is a free version (on demand scanning only), the paid for version
includes active monitoring, similar to Windows defender:
<http://www.superantispyware.com/>
-=-

Try running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware... download, update, and perform a
full system scan:
<http://www.malwarebytes.org/roguenet.php?id=401>
-=-

Windows Live OneCare online scan
<http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/tryscanner.htm>
Look for Protection, the broom Clean up, also Tune Up..
-=-

Windows Malicious Software Tool
<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e0-e72d-4f54-9ab3-75b8eb148356&displaylang=en>
Download to the desktop, close any open page, and run.
-=-

WindowsDefender
Consider going to the secu?ity portal

<http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/>

and downloading the 32-bit definitions for Windows Defender to the desktop,
then double-click them to apply.

Have you done any scans within safe mode ?

Restart in safe mode and scan with both updated WD, your Antivirus, (MBAM),
(SAS), (WMRT) and (WLOC)

You have much more work to do (cf.
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=37919).

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/m...ve/default.mspx

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum.

**Post your logs to
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemach....php?board=10.0,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent computer repair shop.
