Hi
It has become a lot more frequent these days, although I have seen the error
message before. I dial in on an ordinary 56k dial-up line (internal modem
Lucent Modem installed in Mecer Notebook machine.) The modem does all the
handshaking necessary, and then it shows up on the screen as "verifying
username and password". Then it just seems to hang and about a minute later
gives me the "Error 721" screen telling me that "The remote computer did not
respond. For further info click help and support for this error", and then
disconnects me. Sometimes I try to dial in two or three times before I
manage to log in properly.
Is this an error with my Internet Service Provider in their computers being
able to log me in, or is it a problem in Windows XP Professional? Or is it
possible that my modem has just given in? And if it is in Windows, is there
any way to correct in, whether by installing a patch on Win XP, or whether
by uninstalling and reinstalling something?
Incidentally, when it does connect, it connects at a healthy 49.2kbps and
the modem works just fine!
Thanks.
